David Allen Hammond
andSinger/Songwriter

A transplanted Arizonan living and performing in Austin since 1979, David Hammond’s music paints a tapestry as wide as the open desert sky. Over the course of his 35 years of performing, his guitar virtuosity has been featured on stage with Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, Kimmie Rhodes, Kelly Willis, Sara Hickman, Tish Hinojosa, Nancy Griffith, Rosie Flores, Ray Campi, David Halley and many others. His songwriting credits include collaborations with Jimmie Dale Gilmore (who received three grammy nominations), Kevin Welch, Fred Koller, Don McCalister, and Tom Littlefield.

Based in the recording studio through the winter of 2000/2001, David Allen Hammond and veteran producer Glen Kowamoto collaborated at David’s own studio as well as Austin’s prestigious Congress House Studio’s to record David’s new album and finest work to date. . .“Lifelines”. Filled with passion and scorching, over-the-top musical performances by some of Austin’s premier session musicians. . . “Lifelines” is sure to be the first great Austin album of  2002.

Combining the stark, windswept central Arizona deserts of his childhood with the expansive landscape of his musical vision, “Lifelines”, is filled with succinct, yet vividly heartfelt images of love, loss, despair and triumph despite overpowering odds. . .making “Lifelines” a most remarkable offering from a most remarkable musician, David Allen Hammond.

It's been a wild few months, but as of this writing, I'm living in New York City with my girlfriend Jeanie, and starting to book some gigs.  The last yeare was spent taking care of my mother through her illness and doing pre-production on a new album that has been postponed due to this move.  In a moment of madness I deleted my myspace account and have started over again, so if you have one of your own, send me an add message and I can rebuild my base.  More will be forthcoming.

Friday, Dec. 28th
Things have been busy with taking care of my mother, but it appears this section of my life is coming to a close.  I'll be heading back to Chama on the 12th of January.  Gotta go to a memorial for my friend Tom Porter who died suddenly and unexpectedly last week.  It's been heartbreaking for me, but that's life.  I blog on my Myspace site these days, there is a link on the front page of this site.  That's all for now.

Tues, Aug., 28th
I'm in Sedona again, taking care of my mom who has fallen and broken her hip (again).  It's tough watching someone you love in pain, but she is getting the best treatment around, so there's that.  I've been trying to blog a little on my myspace site, gonna have to decide if it will be my primary site or not.  Maybe I can use this one for "personal" writing, ideas, etc... and the myspace one for "business" stuff.  In any case, I hardly have the energy for one site, let alone two.
My album is on hold.  Last week my "new" console went down (power supply).  Don't have the inclination to start soldering yet, then my madre got hurt, so it may be awhile in the making.  At some point I have to get back to it.  In the meantime, I'll be looking for a good, older analog mixing console.  Hopefully a little higher quality than my last two.  I've been e-mailing some old music friends lately, (thanks to Myspace)m but don't really have time to correspond right now.  Maybe my life will become about music again at some point, then it will make sense to reconnect.  Anyway, mass luego, dahveed.

SAT., AUG 11TH, 2007
The music fest is history, was fun and entertaining.  I've got my new (used) mixer installed and it is running quiet.  It's exactly the same as my old mixer (Behringer MX8000), all I had to do was swap the meter bridge, then rewire the patchbays.  Basically a one-day job.  Anywho, the DDX 3216 is  history and on sale on Craiglist.  I would love to save it for live gigs, but don't want to invest in a case, or mess with more gear.  I have a client coming in today to do some recording.  Devin, and her son and nephew, should be fun, then tomorrow it's off to Navajo Dam for a gig with Suzanna at Wines of the San Juan.  Jazz standards and quirky originals will be the fare of the day.  My album is coming along, thanks to being able to use the mixer, so It shouldn't be more than another decade before I get it out there.   More as time allows.

THURS., JUNE 28th, 2007
The 4th annual Chama Music Fest is history now and was really fine, with exemplary sets from Kevin Welch, Jed and Kelly, Tom and Emily and others.  The jams were fun and the attendance was good.  I haven't written anything much here lately as this has been a hellacious winter.  But, things seem to be setlling out and I feel creative again.  Tom Proutt and I wrote a new song and demo'd it yesterday.  I'm probably going to put it on my album if I can get a good version of it recorded.  With a little luck, I'll be writing a little more often than I have in the past (at least here).  I've been doing lots of carpentry work this spring and have made enough to put in a septic tank so I can move a camper onto my land and start building a house.
    Well, more later.  david

I've been in the studio a lot this week. Recording of the new album is coming along nicely.  I've got tracks of Pegleg John and it's sounding cool.  The drum track for "The Jungle" is lots of fun as well.   I've been messing with Reason a lot, find it kind of counter-intuitive, would love feedback from anyone who has used it a lot.  I'm getting some cool stuff, but it takes longer than it should.  I'll try checking out a ProTools user group that I've joined, some of them should be fairly good at it.  My new mixer arrives this week, if UPS doesn't destroy it like they did my last three packages.  It took months to recover my money from a a G5 I bought last year (which was completely destroyed in shipping).  Anyway, I'm not playing the High Country this summer, too much work for too little fun.  I have been playing with Suzanna at a winery over by Aztec (Wines of the San Juan).  Hopefully I can put together some dates for a fall tour.  That's all the news that fits, will try to upload some photos.  Later, david
